The disclosure relates to a method and an apparatus for sealing off the explosive charge compartment in a shell of the type in which the shell comprises a shell case (1) in whose forward region there is disposed an element (4) covering the explosive charge and provided with an annular abutment surface against the inner contour of the shell case. In connection with the edge of the element covering the explosive charge, a sealant compound (5) is applied, and a metal ring (6) is pressed by radial flaring against the sealant compound so that it straddles the joint (7) between the element (4) covering the explosive charge and the shell case (1), and accurately follows the inner contours of the element covering the explosive charge and the shell case. <IMAGE> |
