PURPOSE:To offer a manganese dry cell capable of restraining corrosion of zinc or zinc alloy used as negative electrode to a great extent by providing a specific amount in relation to electrolyte, of cation boundary surface active agent monoalkyl quaternary ammonium chloride made from soybean oil. CONSTITUTION:In a manganese dry cell using an electrolyte composed mainly of a solution of zinc chloride and/or a solution of ammonium chloride, cation surface active agent monoalkyl quaternary ammonium chloride made from soybean oil is provided by 0.002 to 0.2cap.% in the electrolyte. Addition of cation boundary surface active agent sufficiently restrains corrosion of mercury- free zinc or zinc alloy but the same effect can be obtained with amalgamated zinc or zinc alloy to which mercury is added in a small amount. |
