PURPOSE:To selectively obtain the subject compound under mild reaction conditions by using a solid catalyst containing a platinum group metal or a compound thereof and specific compounds of one or more metals such as iron supported on a carrier in catalytically reacting carbon monoxide with a nitrous acid ester in the vapor phase. CONSTITUTION:Carbon monoxide is catalytically reacted with a nitrous acid ester in the vapor phase in the presence of a solid catalyst containing a platinum group metal or a compound thereof, preferably a halogen compound of Pd, Ru or Rh, especially palladium chloride and compounds of one or more metals selected from Fe, Cu, Bi, Co, Ni and Sn, especially halogen compounds supported on a carrier, preferably active carbon, preferably under mild reaction conditions of 50-120 deg.C temperature and ordinary pressure to afford a carbonic acid diester useful as an intermediate for medicines, agricultural chemicals, polycarbonates, urethanes, etc., in high selectivity and yield by a vapor-phase method for facilitating separation and recovery of the product without causing danger in operation. |
