PURPOSE:To enable a printer to perform its specific proportional specing, by a method wherein, in a proportional spacing printing, width of each type is computed from a type pattern generator to decide a predetermined space between types from the result. CONSTITUTION:A type code 11 fed from an external device is fed to a type pattern storing memory 12 where a given type pattern stored in a type frame of a 20X20 bit number is generated. A bit information of each subscanning position on a type pattern is then outputted from subscanning direction terminals OS1- OS20 based on a shift clock 13. A counter 15 counts a picture signal ''0'' in a subscanning direction to output the counting value as a space signal 17. A letter M attains a counting value ''0'', and a letter I goes to a counting value 14. A correction value output decoder 18 decides a correcting value (space to be set) in a direction of a line based on the space signal 17. The letter M attains a space 1, and the letter I attains a space 4. |
