The invention relates to a process and a device for metering a viscous liquid in a plurality of consecutive doses from one and the same cylinder 1 provided with a metering opening 2 by periodically reducing the volume of the cylinder each time by a value corresponding to one dose. According to the invention, each metering period is concluded by somewhat increasing the volume of the cylinder 1 so as to produce a suction effect in the metering opening 2 and subsequently reducing the volume of the container prior to the following metering period by a quantity corresponding to the previous increase.
