<p>This reactor is intended for use in the biotechnology, chemical and food industries, in hydrometallurgy, as well as in environmental protection. Using this biological reactor it is possible to maintain a constantly high oxygen concentration throughout the whole layer thickness; it operates in hydrodynamic mode, very close to the ideal shift, it allows employment of diverse cultivating conditions depending on the residence time of the liquid medium therein, the biological film thickness is maintained constant with time, and suitable conditions for fixing the micro-organisms are ensured. This biological reactor comprises consecutively connected units, each accommodating an airlifting zone and a reverse boiling layer zone, the units having a quadrangular or other horizontal geometrical cross-section. The airlifting zone is supplied with air or another gas. A device for controlling the thickness of the bio-film, consisting of a grid spread with particles of higher density than that of the liquid medium may be installed within this zone. The zone of the reverse boiling layer is filled with particles the density of which is lower than that of the liquid medium in the biological reactor.</p> |
