In order to increase the deployment ratio of a caged tensioner, a tensioner is produced with at least one hollow screw (2) of length equal to the cage. Another screw (3) with reverse pitch threads into the hollow screw. It is shown that, aside from the increase in the deployment ratio, the buckling loads are decreased by holding (34) at one or two middle points. <IMAGE>
