The present invention relates to a scanner intended for analysing a document (19), including a casing (1), within which is arranged at least one source of monochromatic light which is used to form a light pencil with which the document (19) is scanned, receiver means (39) able to convert the light transmitted or reflected by the document while it is being scanned, into electrical signals. The scanner is characterised in that it comprises at least one bundle of optical fibres forming an illumination line parallel to the plane (Q) of the document to be analysed, first convergence means (35) arranged between the illumination line and the document (19) and concentrating the light rays coming out of the illumination line onto a transverse line of the document to be analysed, and second convergence means reproducing this illuminated line transversal to the document (19) on the receiver means (39). <IMAGE>
