The invention relates to a stair device for a tractor or equivalent. The stair device comprises a step 1 essentially in the longitudinal direction or direction of travel of the tractor, the front end of which step in the direction of travel is fixed to the frame of the tractor or to the upper step 4 essentially by means of a vertical suspension rod 2. The upper end of the suspension rod is fixed to the frame of the tractor or to the upper step 4 by means of a transversely directed hinge joint 5 of the tractor and the fastening between the lower end of the suspension rod 2 and the front end of the step 1 having been realized by means of a hinge device 10. The rear end of the step 1 is suspended from the frame of the tractor or from the upper step 4 by means of a chain 3 or equivalent member. In the hinge device 10 between the suspension rod 2 and the step 1 there are members 11-17 which allow the step 1 and the suspension rod 2 to swivel relative to each other when the suspension rod 2 is swung forwards in the direction of travel about the hinge 5 of the upper end and prevents swivelling between the step 1 and the suspension rod 2 when the suspension rod is swung backwards about the said hinge 5 and which members 11-17 are arranged to stiffen the suspension rod 2 and the step 1 essentially at a 90 degree angle relative to each other when the step 1 is subjected to load. <IMAGE>
