The invention relates to a seal with a sliding ring, allowing relatively high sliding speeds without excessive heating. A fixed sealing ring (1) is fixed in a sealed manner to the casing (3) and includes an elastic annular element (2). A sliding ring (4) with a cylindrical internal surface (5) surrounds the shaft (6). The elastic element (2) includes a sealing lip (7) held by a spring (8) in a circumferential groove in the sliding ring (4). This ring (4) forms, together with the shaft (6), at least one sliding bearing (18) capable of operating dry. Such a seal can be used particularly in machines and in vehicles. <IMAGE>
