Metallic bars friction welding to tubular conductor - fusing half into recess in each bar to produce 5 to 10 mm thick contact

A contact piece (17) of tubular section is placed between two bars (12) of e.g. A1MgSi0.5 incorporating a concave recess (16) of corresp. dia. (about 50 mm). The tube (17) is rotated about its longitudinal axis while both bars (12) are pressed against it. The kinetic energy of a flywheel on the spindle driving the tube (17) is converted by friction into heat which fuses the bars (12) together. They are then sepd. with the tube (17) split into two. USE/ADVANTAGE - In mfr. of conductors for electrochemical cleaning of metals. The connection is achieved easily and quickly with economical rise of material.
