A ballistic missile is provided with a protective covering (1) of square or hexagonal tiles made of ceramic or other hard material. Each tile has a central point of max thickness with the thickness decreasing uniformly from this central point to the tile edges. The outer surfaces of the tile is thus formed of sloping surfaces which intersect at ridges radiating from the central point. This feature deflects any bullet or other projectile striking the tile so that it slides towards one of the edges and thus causes less damage. In addition the weight and thickness of the tile are reduced. USE - Ballistic missiles.
