A hollow cylinder (1) rotating about its horizontal axis (3) is divided by a serpentine partition (2) into two chambers (10,11) which are filled and emptied alternately via ports (8,9). The tube (12) extends through the centre of the partition (2) which is assembled from two oppositely curved half-shells (4,5) of dia. equal to the radius of the cylinder (1). In the starting position one port (8) is fully open to atmos., and the other port (9) is closed at the bed of the stream (15,16).
