PURPOSE:To make the display of a display means legible and to improve the visibility of the display by detecting ambient lightness, sudden light irradiation, etc., by an optical sensor and controlling a display driving means, and varying the brightness of a part which becomes the background of the display means or displaying it intermittently. CONSTITUTION:Electric power generated by a solar battery 1 is charged in a storage battery 2 through a diode 6 for reverse current prevention and this storage battery 2 applied a voltage required for liquid crystal driving to a liquid crystal driving circuit 5. The photodetection output of the optical sensor 3 is inputted to the liquid crystal driving circuit 5. The liquid crystal driving circuit 5 varies the display state of a liquid crystal display part 4 according to the photodetection output. Consequently, the quantity of irradiation light incident on the optical sensor 3 in daytime increases to vary the extent of the dark state of the liquid crystal part as the background and display characters, etc., are embossed and recognized. Further, the display characters, etc., can be recognized even in nighttime through similar operation. |
