The two parts (10, 11) of the box hinge are connected releasably to one another, that is to say the hinge pin (16) of one part (10) and the hollow cylinder (17) of the other part (11) can be disengaged by axial displacement. Furthermore, the hinge pin (16) is mounted on the associated hinge part (10) so as to be rotatable and axially displaceable and is resiliently prestressed axially. At its free end, it is equipped with a rotation prevention means (38) which is engaged with the other hinge part (11) fixedly in terms of rotation and axially releasably. During the opening and closing of the particular box, the hinge pin (16) thus positively executes a rotational movement. In its portion located on the same side as the bearing, the hinge pin (16) is equipped with a radial grooved dowel pin (24) which at a predetermined angle engages as a result of spring force into a bearing notch (22) and thus locks the two hinge parts (10, 11) releasably at a predetermined opening angle.
