A process is claimed for vulcanising rubber latex (I) using a hydroperoxide (II) and reducing agent (III), in combination with an acrylate ester (IV). (I) is a latex of natural or synthetic rubber or a mixt thereof; (IV) is n-butyl, 2-ethylhexyl, tert-butyl or n-hexyl acrylate, 1,6-hexanediol di (meth)acrylate neopentyl glycol di(meth)acrylate, trimethylolproane tri(meth)acrylate, tetramethylolmethane tri(meth)acrylate, trimethylolethane triacrylate, tetramethylolmethane tetraacrylate, or a mixt thereof; (II) is cumene-, di-isopropylbenzene-, p-methane- or 1,1,3,3-tetramethyl-butyl-hydroperoxide or a mixt thereof; (III) is tetra-ethylenepentamine, penta-ethylene-hexamine, diethylenetriamine, dipropylenetriamine, tripropylenetetramine and/or ascorbic acid; amts are 1-20 pts wt (IV), 0.05-2.0 pts wt (II) and 0.05-2.0 pts wt (III) per 100 pts wt rubber solids. USE/ADVANTAGE - Wrt prior-art processes, this process enables the vulcanisation of (I) in a shorter time at lower temps. The vulcanised latex has the same colloidal properties as the unvulcanised latex, and can be used for the prodn of rubber articles by dipping, etc.
