PURPOSE: To protect a fiber optic light guide by arresting light of specific wavelength emitted within a visible spectrum at the time of the combustion of a bio tissue, and using the light for adjusting laser output. CONSTITUTION: A bio tissue 9 is incised in a contact state, and coagulated in a non-contact state alternately via the use of fiber optically introduced beam of a laser 1 connected to a fiber optic light guide 4 as an incision knife or a coagulation knife. In this case, a beam within a spectral range between 0.3 and 0.9μm emitted from a tissue 9, again received via the ends 4 and 2 of the light guide 4 and then returned via the light guide 4, is arrested under the filtration and elimination of the laser beam and directed to a detector 7. Then, the beam output of the laser 1 is controlled at a value smaller than the breakage threshold value of the light guide 4 by use of beam detector output signals, so that the beam emitted at the time of the combustion of the incised tissue 9 and the combustion of a tissue residue adhering or seized to the ends 4 and 2 of the light guide 4 does not exceed the prescribed value.
