In raising the storage, temp., mechanical and chemical stability of biocatalysts, an aq. contg. the biocatalyst is mixed with a surfactant, forming a lyotropic mesophase which stabilises the biocatalyst and serves as storage and/or reaction medium. The biocatalyst solubilised in the mesophase is converted by addn. of water into an aq. soln. or dispersion, and the biocatalyst is converted by addn. of water into an aq. soln. or dispersion, and the biocatalytic properties are utilised in this form. USE/ADVANTAGE - The biocatalysts are used in washing and cleaning, and for biocatalytic reactions. The biocatalyst system is easily handled, and retains its activity for weeks or months, even at raised temp.. Growth of micro-organisms is greatly retarded.
