The diaphragm is a flat cone in shape. It consists of a flexible membrane supported on a sheet metal member (2) having cutouts (4) towards the outer edge. Since the bending load increases towards the centre, uniform stressing of the webs (7) between the cutouts (4) can be achieved by making the cutouts of triangular or pear drop shape with the narrow end lying towards the centre of the diaphragm.
