PURPOSE:To accelerate the rise of the generated light quantity and obtain the desired light quantity in the stable discharge state by controlling the rate of the change of the control value against the change of the output value to a small value when the output value is less than a preset value, and controlling the rate to a large value when the output value is the preset value or above. CONSTITUTION:A detecting means 4 detects the voltage across both ends of a discharge lamp 5. A control means 6 changes the control value controlling the discharge current flowing in the discharge lamp 5 in sequence in the direction to decrease the discharge current as the output value of the detecting means 4 is increased from the start of lighting to the transition to the stable discharge state. The rate of the change of the control value against the change of the output value is controlled to a small value when the output value is less than a preset value, and the rate is controlled to a large value when the output value is the preset value or above. The rise of the generated light quantity is accelerated, and the desired light quantity can be obtained in the stable discharge state. |
