PURPOSE: To eliminate the need of an expensive polarization preservation fiber by combining error signals with first and second control signals so as to minimize a difference between the polarization state of light guided by an optical waveguide and a desired polarization state. CONSTITUTION: For the correlational intensity of polarization state modulation signals and the irreversible phase modulation signals of an optical fiber rotation sensor 50, a part is decided by the deviation of the phase of the peak of an irreversible phase modulator 296 and the modulation amplitudes B1 and B2 of a double refraction transducer 128. For the case of two modulated polarization controllers (four-dimensional) 22, the irreversible phase shifting sensitivity point of the peak corresponds to the reduction of the amplitude less than 10% in the second harmonic waves of the irreversible phase modulation frequency of the optical fiber rotation sensor 50. The irreversible phase shifting sensitivity point of the peak in a two-dimensional case causes the reduction of the amplitude of 46% in second harmonic wave signals as a result. Modulation also affects the precision of the error signals of the polarization controller 22. Thus, constitution is simplified. |
