In a device for picking up thin, flexible strips from a strip pile (13) by means of at least three suction cups (14) which are connected to a source of negative pressure and can be moved perpendicularly onto the uppermost strip of the strip pile (13) (pick up position) and can then be raised into a delivery position, the unintentional adherence of a strip lying below the uppermost strip can be avoided in that the suction cups (14) can be raised by a slight amount from the pick up position into an intermediate position, and in that the suction cups (14) are moved into the intermediate position at at least two different points in time. <IMAGE>
