Some fibre-optic cables (7-13) are coupled in parallel through a cylindrical lightguide of the same material and of greater diameter (6). An outer casing (10) made from LCP (Liq. Crystal Polymer) is used to hold the junction in a durable bond. By use of LCP in the casing the thermal expansion coefficients of the cable materials are matched thus min. stresses due to temp. changes. USE/ADVANTAGE - For vehicular computer control system. Greater flexibility and durability in confined spaces is paramount.
