<p>PURPOSE:To reduce the inter-electrode capacity of an electric field emitting element and improve the production yield and production cost by forming part of the element region specified by the overlapped portion of the first electrode formed on a flat substrate and the second electrode formed on the first insulating layer into an electric field emission region. CONSTITUTION:The stripe-shaped first electrode 2 is formed on a flat glass substrate 1, the second insulating layer 3 is formed on part of the surface of the first electrode 2 and the glass substrate 1, the first insulating layer 4 is formed on the exposed surface of the first electrode 2, and the stripe-shaped second electrode 5 is formed on its surface in the direction perpendicular to the first electrode 2 to obtain an element substrate. Electric field emitting elements are formed for individual picture elements, the element region is the overlapped region of the first electrode 2 and the second electrode 5, and the electric field emission region is the portion where the first insulating layer 4 is put in direct contact with the first electrode 2 in the element region. The inter-electrode capacity can be reduced while the element region is kept at the desired size, inter-electrode short circuit or defective withstand voltage due to pin holes on insulating layers can be prevented, thus the production yield can be improved.</p> |
