PURPOSE:To obtain a roll excellent in wear resistance by inserting base material into a combinational mold, pouring molten metal into the outer periphery of the base material, lowering the base material, depositing the molten metal on the outer surface of the base material, cooling and solidifying it and forming a padding layer to manufacture a sleeve. CONSTITUTION:The hollow base material 5 is inserted vertically into the inside of combinational mold which arranges a cooling mold 4 built-in mold integrally under a refractory mold 2 wrapped by a main electromagnetic induction heating coil 1. Then, the molten metal 6 making the outer layer of the sleeve is poured into a cavity part 7 between the base material 5 and the combinational mold and the base material 6 is lowered intermittently. The molten metal 6 is deposited on the surface of the base material 5, cooled and solidified in sequence by a graphite shock-absorbing mold 3 and the hollow cooling mold 4 to form the padding layer 8. In order to fit the sleeve manufactured in this way to a roll axial body, the sleeve 21 is shrink-fitted to the roll axial body 22 and one opening end part 21a is fixed by welding 23. The other opening end part 21b is made a free end or mounts a knock pin 24. |
