PURPOSE: To achieve the easiest access to a working zone, by arranging a passageway with a specific shape to let air flow almost horizontally but slightly upward and a forward tilted filter inclined oppositely thereto in a backshelf type unit to most efficiently exhaust a flue from above the working zone. CONSTITUTION: In a hood, especially a top wall unit 4 thereof contains a heat insulated upper wall or a top wall 16 extending horizontally across the width of the enclosure of the hood from a supply/discharge duct housing 17. An introduction air duct 12 is installed in front of the housing 17 and the end thereof makes a passageway 18 in the top wall unit 4. The passage 18 is so formed that air flowing in downwardly is smoothly deflected horizontally to flow ahead of the top wall unit 4. The passageway 18 extends forward and linked to a reverse defector passageway 19 curved in front of the top wall unit 4 and smoothly deflects forward moving air into an exhaust chamber 7, so that the air is redirected to the rear thereof traversing it to flow toward an exhaust passageway as air curtain 14.
