There are disclosed a novel color coupler for photography and a silver halide color photographic material comprising the same, wherein the color coupler is one of beta , gamma -unsaturated nitriles represented by formula (I). The disclosure described provides a color coupler, particularly a cyan coupler, which forms color images less in subsidiary absorption, good in color reproduction, and excellent in fastness, and a silver halide color photographic material having color images as described above. Further the color coupler having features that can be synthesized from inexpensive raw material in a low cost is provided.
