In apparatus for combing out thread-like constituents from bulk materials by means of a cylinder (3) provided on the outside with spines (4), these thread-like constituents can best be removed from the spines (4) in that the cylinder (3) is of hollow construction and in that the spines (4) pass through bores in the cylinder and are tiltably connected to a bearing element the central axis of which is offset in relation to the axis of rotation of the cylinder by a suitable amount so that the spines (4) are continuously retracted into the cylinder and then emerge from it again during the course of a full revolution of the cylinder.
