A drum for assembling tyre components comprising a sliding body (2) externally mounted on and engaged with a shaft (1) so that it may move in an axial direction, and a cylindrical aggregate (4) of circumferentially spaced apart segments (16) externally mounted on the sliding body (2) by an expander means so that the outer diameter of said cylindrical aggregate (4) of segments (16) is expandable and reducable by means of the backward and forward movement in the axial direction of the sliding body (2) by a cylinder mechanism (3) provided outside said sliding body (2). The expander means comprises tapered surfaces (5, 220 on the outside of the sliding body (2) and the inside of each segment (16) and an axially displaced annular piston (31) and cylinder tube (32) is operatively connected to the sliding body (2) by means of connecting members (55). <IMAGE>
