<p>PURPOSE: To reduce load on a communication path or a storage means by comparing compressed data received for a present frame picture with the re- constitution of the just previous frame picture, preparing the compressed data of a picture, and reducing data amounts to be stored or transmitted. CONSTITUTION: An original picture is resolved into a pair of sub-pictures related with the original by various resolution scales. The resolution is operated by allowing the picture to repeatedly pass through a low pass filter. The copy of the 'transmitted' approximate value of the just previous sub-picture is stored in a compressor, each sub-picture is divided into plural blocks for predictive coding, and a predictive rule is generated for each block. Thus, while data amounts are controlled, the instruction of the error of prediction is combined with the prediction so that the approximate value of the pixel value of the block can be applied. Data from levels L0 -L3 and (g)4 are transmitted to a quantizer Q, and transmitted through predictors I0 P-L3 P and g4 P and an encoder 2 to an output buffer 3, and stored or transmitted through front error correction 2a.</p> |
