PURPOSE:To obtain the subject soft thread and yarn excellent in sewing properties and knitting characteristics by coating single filaments constructing hairy materials of the sewing thread or knitting yarn having the hairy materials with a water-repellent resin for each single filament. CONSTITUTION:Sewing thread or knitting yarn produced by dipping a skeinlike material of filament yarn in which hairy materials, such as loops or snarls, composed of preferably synthetic fiber, etc., in an amount of >=20% based on the whole thereof are constructed of hairy materials having >=1mm length on the yarn surface in a treating solution containing a fluorine-based vinyl monomer compound and a polymerization catalyst and then subjecting the dipped skeinlike material to polymerization reaction in the presence of water under relaxed conditions and forming a film from a water-repellent resin for each of the single filaments constructing the aforementioned hairy materials. The resultant sewing thread and knitting yarn are good in sewing properties and knitting characteristics, extremely effective in, e.g. sewing fabrics with bad needling, excellent as knitting yarn and suitable as hand-knitting yarn due to rich softness thereof. |
