PURPOSE:To obtain the subject sulfide capable of removal of iron component without damage to the essential characteristics and useful for a film, etc., by using an organic compound having an iron-chelatable value of >=a specified value in a prescribe ratio. CONSTITUTION:In bringing (A) an alkaline sulfide intermediate obtained from (i) an alkaline hydrosulfide and (ii) an alkaline metal base into contact with (B) a dihaloaryl in a solvent, (iii) an organic compound having >=20 mg/g trivalent iron-chelatable value (Fe<+3>CV) is added in an amount of 1-2,000 ppm based on the sum between the component (i) and the component (ii) before the completion of formation of the component (A) to obtain the objective sulfide represented by a structural unit -(Ar-S)n-. In addition, a compound represented by formula I [V, W, X and Z are H or compound of formula II (m is 1-3); Y is compound of formula II; p is 0-2] is preferable as the component (iii). |
