PRODUCTION OF HALOGENO-4-ALKOXYNEOPHYL BROMIDE

PURPOSE:To obtain the subject substance in high yield with little production of by-product by using 2-halogenoalkoxybenzenes and methallyl bromide at a specific ratio and reacting with each other in the presence of sulfuric acid having a specific concentration as a protonic acid catalyst. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound of formula II is produced by reacting a compound of formula I (one of X1 and X2 is H and the other is halogen or both X1 and X2 are halogen; R is lower alkyl) with methallyl bromide in the presence of a protonic acid catalyst. The reaction is carried out at <=10 deg.C using >=2mol of the compound of formula I based on 1 mol of methallyl bromide and using sulfuric acid of 90-95% concentration as the protonic acid catalyst. The amount of by-produced binuclear compound can be suppressed to <=3mol% based on the methallyl bromide used as a raw material. The compound of formula II is useful as a production intermediate for an insecticide having low toxicity to fish.
