HYDROGEN STORAGE ELECTRODE FOR ALKALINE STORAGE BATTERY AND MANUFACTURE THEREOF

PURPOSE:To obtain a hydrogen storage electrode with long life by forming the hydrogen storage electrode mainly with hydrogen storage alloy powder covered with very fine copper powder with a specified particle diameter. CONSTITUTION:Very fine copper powder with a mean particle diameter of 0.1 mum or less is very finely added to hydrogen storage alloy powder to be mixed, and a binder and a conductive material are added thereto, then the mixture is press-molded to form an electrode. The very fine copper powder on the hydrogen storage alloy powder causes secondary coagulation, well covers the surface of the alloy particle, and forms a three-dimensional network. Stress caused by the expansion and shrinkage of the hydrogen storage alloy powder attendant on repeated charge-discharge is eased and the cycle life of the electrode is increased.
