A device for holding sample containers, esp. Eppendorf tubes, has several holding vessels. arranged on a hot plate, the vessels and the hot plate pref. being made of high thermal conductivity, low heat capacity material, e.g. a metal such as silver. The device may be a one-piece cast part or a welded or soldered assembly. USE/ADVANTAGE - The device is esp. useful in controlled temp. reactions, e.g. polymerase chain reactions. It allows extremely Fapid heating and cooling and precise temp. control.
