The programming device (22) has an optical display (10) allowing each function group (11..16) of the heart pacemaker (21) to be represented. The optical display (10) is touch sensitive, to allow each represented function group (11...16) to be switched on and off. Pref. an evaluation circuit detects the touched sector of the display (10) to provide a control signal for the selected function group (11..16), transmitted to the pacemaker (21) via an inductive coupling, allowing the pacemaker function group (11...16) to be activated. ADVANTAGE - Simple activation of different function groups within implanted heart pacemaker.
