PURPOSE:To enable even a user to execute easily the maintenence of an optical pickup by detecting stepwise the fall of the output signal level of the optical pickup from a host computer. CONSTITUTION:The host computer 9 detects periodically the fall of the output of the optical pickup 3 of a CD-ROM drive device 8 as status information from the CD-ROM drive device 8 by application software. Then, it displays a dust removing method on a monitor 10 according to this information so as to have the user remove the dust of the pickup 3, and checks again the fall of the output of the optical pickup 3. Besides, when the output of the optical pickup 3 falls further, and it falls down to a second detection level, and it is not restored by removing the dust of the optical pickup 3, it displays this on the monitor 10, and warns that the maintenance by a service man is required. Thus, the user can easily execute the maintenance of a system. |
