The crimping press is used for the automatic fixing of connectors to the ends of electrical wires (IV). Strip metal (S) is fed across a base plate, and the terminals are formed with a geared U shape that fits around both the end of the exposed wire and the insulation. The motor drives drive of the press operates to force the top tool assembly (44) down to effect crimping. Built into the base of the press is load sensor in the form of piezo- crystal device (26). The sensor output is fed back to control the applied force. ADVANTAGE - Provides control of crimping force using protected sensor.
