An external programmer (27) has a touch-sensitive screenpref. provided by a LCD (10) for operating parameters. Co-ordinates of the display are detected by a row-and-column detector (17) and an evaluation circuit (19). Pull-down menus (11,22,23) are used, with specific value selection on the pulled out menu (12-16), and the charge state of the pacemaker's battery can be seen as displayed (26). The unit communicates with the pacemaker (21) via the couplers (18,20). ADVANTAGE - Smaller dimensions and insensitivity to external influences.
