PURPOSE: To modulate a signal to pass through a variable delay element by arranging a 1st linear polarizer at one terminal of an optical light guide, arranging a 2nd linear polarizer for making obvious polarized light parallelly to the polarization of the 1st linear polarizer at the other terminal and providing focusing means for the respective polarizers. CONSTITUTION: An optical light guide 12 is formed on one side of a board 10 composed of birefringent materials having a neutral axis directed so as to divide one electromagnetic wave, which is to be spread toward the optical light guide, into two electromagnetic waves having polarized poles along the neutral axis mutually perpendicularly. Besides, means 14-16 for uniformly impressing an electric field to the face of the board 10 vertically along the optical light guide 12, a 1st linear polarizer 20 arranged at one terminal of the optical light guide 12, 2nd linear polarizer 22 arranged at the other terminal of the optical light guide 12 so as to make the polarized light obviously existent parallelly to the polarized light of the 1st linear polarizer 20 and focusing means 24, 26, 28 and 30 are provided. Thus, the signal to pass through the variable delay element is modulated. |
