摘要 <p>PURPOSE: To provide an optical device which enables nonlinear transmission of electromagnetic radiation at a high efficiency by incorporating a metal oxide or metal fluoride and a low mol. aromatic compd. into a transmission accelerating layer. CONSTITUTION: A transmission accelerating layer 103 is formed on a conductive substrate 101 which has a function as a polarity controlling electrode. A polarity controlling polymer film 105 is formed on the transmission accelerating layer. A prism 107 is disposed on the film so that electromagnetic radiation is introduced into the polymer film. The low mol.wt. aromatic compd. used to form the transmission accelerating layer 103 is a polycyclic aromatic compd. or its deriv. such as phenylidan diol, 1,1'spirobiindan diol. The metal component in the transmission accelerating layer is selected from among stable metal oxides and metal fluorides. For example, alkali metal fluodrides and alkaline earth metal fluorides are preferable.</p>
