PURPOSE:To easily bracket a common bus at occurrence of a fault by designating the slave devices via a host device in the order of connection set by a packing table and carrying out a diagnostic program to diagnose the common bus. CONSTITUTION:In a system where a host device 1 like a channel controller, etc., is successively connected to the slave devices 2-1 - 2-n like input/output controllers, etc., via a common bus 3, a packing table 4 is provided to the device 1 to show the order of connection set for the devices 2-1 - 2-n via the bus 3. Then the device 1 designates successively the devices 2-1 - 2-n based on the order of connection set by the table 4 and carries out a diagnostic program. At diagnosis, the diagnostic results are all abnormal to the slave devices set orderly at and after a fault point of the bus 3. Thus the fault point of the bus 3 is quickly identified. As a result, the bus 3 can be easily bracketted in a fault state. |
