摘要 <p>PURPOSE: To decrease the number of electrodes and to simplify an electron control means by extending overall a pair of coplanar electrodes in almost the same direction so as to constitute two electrodes, and by defining a discharge flow rate of a pattern to be displayed between the electrodes. CONSTITUTION: Each of paired electrodes P1,..., P7 is provided with a first electrode E1 and a second electrode E2. Two electrodes of the each paired electrode are designed so as to be operatively united together to constitute one discharge cell. Moreover, the electrodes E1 and E2 of the each paired electrodes P1,...P7 are connected to control means 16, 20 and 21. By using the paired electrodes P1,...P7, any pattern included in a discharge region ZC for each paired electrode, for example, a straight line, a curve and a jagged line can be displayed. The shape of the discharge region ZC is defined by the two electrodes E1 and E2, constituting the paired electrode. This reduces the number of electrodes without the need for feeding a complicated voltage signal, so that a simplified plasma display panel device can be obtained.</p>
