High solubility gold cpd. prepn. - by reacting halo-auric acid with mercaptan

An organic gold cpd. is new. The cpd. consists of a gold atom, a halogen atom as bonding to the gold atom and a mercapto gp. of formula (I). In (I); Y and Z = H, or 1-18C hydrocarbon. The proportion of bonding halogen atom to gold atom is 0.01-0.30 mol. to mol.; of halogen atom to mercapto gp. is 0.70-0.99 mol. to mol.; and the total amt. of bonding halogen atom and mercapto gp. is 0.8 mol. - 1.2 mols. per mol. of gold atom. Pref. the bonding halogen is Cl or Br; Z = H, CH3 or C2H5; and examples of the mercapto gp. include benzylmercapto, o-methylbenzylmmercaptomercapto, p-isobutylbenzyl-alpha-methyl-p-isopropylbenzylmercapto and p-vinylbenzylmercapto.
