The copy sheets are exposed on one side and turned over by a reversing unit (15) and delivered to a duplex unit (14) for the image recording unit (10) which reproduces an image on the other side of the sheet before deposition it (28) on a tray (50). If jamming occurs, copy papers already on conveying path are guided to the duplex unit and stacked in a predetermined position in the latter before being brought into the transport path again for leading to units outside the duplex unit unit the fault condition causing blocking is cleared.
