PURPOSE:To maintain a constant gap between a nozzle and a cooling roll and to obtain a thin metallic plate having a uniform thickness by detecting the deviation of the gap with respect to a reference value at all times and controlling the movement of the cooling roll itself according to the detected value. CONSTITUTION:The fluctuation in the gap between a nozzle 3 and a cooling roll (roll) 4 occuring in the thermal expansion displacement of said nozzle 3 and the roll 4 and the eccentric displacement of the roll 4 in a short period superposed thereon is detected at all times as a deviation with respect to a reference gap value during rotation of the roll 4. The thermal expansion displacement is detected by a gap measuring device 28 and the above-mentioned eccentric displacement is detected by a detector 32 for the surface displacement of the roll 4 with respect to the nozzle 3 near the roll 4. The respective signals are calculated in combination by a control device 18 for roll position. A cylinder 16 for correcting the roll position is actuated by a liquid pressure type servocontrol system according to the value thereof to control the movement of the roll 4 in the direction of the roll 3 thereby correcting and controlling surely the above- mentioned gap deviation at a high response speed. A thin plate having a specified thickness is obtd. by the above-mentioned method. |
