ACCELERATION SENSOR AND SHOCK ABSORBER FOR PROTECTION OF CREW ABOARD VEHICLE

PURPOSE: To operate an accelerometer at the minimum response time and obtain high assembly property by constituting the accelerometer in such a way that a contact element moves to one side when an acceleration exceeds an energizing force of an energizing means to bring a pair of contact pieces into contact mutually. CONSTITUTION: This accelerometer is stored in a case (not shown) mounted in a vehicle and is connected with a control unit 54 controlling the expansion of a an air bag 56 and a battery 52 by means of cables. This accelerometer 10 is provided with a tubular body 20 having an end wall on which a hollow projection 24 is formed in an end part thereof, and a metallic guide sleeve 32 is fitted in a barrel part 30 of the body 20. A ball 36 as a contacting element is fitted in the guide sleeve 32 and is held in a spherical recessed part 34 formed on the end wall 22 of the body 20. When an acceleration of a housing H exceeds an energizing force of a permanent magnet 58 which is an energizing means, the ball 36 moves to one end side and comes into contact with contact pieces 44, 46.
