PURPOSE:To relieve a display defect by providing a light shielding patter on an upper substrate, and also, allowing it to constitute a part of a photoelectric converting element, and moreover, allowing a counter electrode to extend over plural pixel electrodes, and also, connecting a semiconductor layer thereto. CONSTITUTION:On the lower face of a glass substrate 20 of the upper electrode substrate 6, a counter electrode 5 is formed like a matrix, and between the upper electrode substrate 6 and the lower electrode substrate 4, a liquid crystal layer 7 is installed. A light shielding pattern 22 is formed on the upper substrate 20, and also, constitutes a part of a photoelectric converting element 23. Also, the counter electrode 5 is formed so as to extend over plural pieces of pixel electrodes 2, and moreover, to each counter electrode 5, a semiconductor layer 26 for constituting the photoelectric converting element 23 is connected, respectively. According to this constitution, in the case a defective picture element is generated due to a failure of a thin film semiconductor element 3, etc., a transmission light is received from a normal picture element being in the periphery of the defective picture element, the element 23 is operated, an electric field is applied to a liquid crystal, and the defective picture element is relieved. |
