PURPOSE:To efficiently remove an allyl group for the synthesis of beta-lactam antibiotics by reacting a penem compound with the alkali metal enolate of a 1,3-diketone compound is the presence of a catalytic amount of a palladium complex. CONSTITUTION:A compound of formula I [R<1> is (substituted) allyl; (m) is 0 or 1] is reacted with the alkali metal enolate of a compound of formula II (R<2> is alkali metal; H atoms on the ring may be substituted with lower alkyl, lower alkyloxycarbonyl, halogen or allyl; (n) is 2 or 4) (in an amount of 0.5-1.5 equivalent per one equivalent of the compound of formula I) in the presence of a catalytic amount of a palladium complex in a solvent such as THF at 10-40 deg.C with stirring, followed by subjecting the reaction solution to the addition of water, the filtration of the mixture, the isolation of the product, etc., to provide the objective compound of formula III. The compound of formula may be reacted with a compound of formula IV in the coexistence of a palladium complex catalyst and an alkali metal chloride in a solvent to provided the compound of formula III. |
