PURPOSE:To amplify and transmit many signal light beams which differ in wavelength simultaneously with relatively simple constitution by providing an optical amplifier equipped with an optical fiber for amplification which amplifies signal light by guide emission and an exciting light source which excites the optical fiber for amplification, a multiplexer, and a demultiplexer. CONSTITUTION:The signals light beams which are emitted by plural light sources 14a - 14c and differ in wavelength from one another are multiplexed by the multiplexer 16 and sent through the optical fiber. The signal light is made incident on the optical amplifier 2 arranged at a specific position so as to compensate the attenuation in the transmission. The optical amplifier 2 has the optical fiber 4 for amplification excited with exciting light from the exciting light source 6 and when the multiplexed signal light is made incident on the optical fiber 4 for amplification in this state, the signal light beams having respective wavelengths are amplified by guide emission at the same time. The respective amplified signal light beams are transmitted through the optical fiber again, demultiplexed by the demultiplexer 18, and fetched to respective receivers. Consequently, the signal light beams having the different wavelengths can be amplified and transmitted simultaneously with the simple constitution. |
